  1. Please make sure your USB connection cable is perfectly functional, with no defects on it.  If the camera works intermittently, please take the USB cable to the camera and leave some slack, as shown in the Figure below.  

    The idea here is to make sure that once the cable is connected, there is no movement on the USB connection, which can be caused by tension in the USB cable.
  2. Please turn off the camera, unplug it, remove the battery, wait a couple of minutes, put the battery in, turn the camera on, make sure it is charged more than 50%, connect it, start the software.
  3. You should try to put the switch on the lens on AF or A (auto focus mode), Reset Camera Settings to factory default - for ex. on the T6i see: -
    this holds true for all cameras.
  4. Disable any face detection function from the camera's menu. Also use the compatible camera set up guide:
    then connect the camera to USB port, disable any auto-play or application that uses the camera. Then start Shutter Stream.
  5. Make sure that your camera's manufacturer application recognizes the camera (you can download it for free from the manufacturer's web site Downloads section). If it doesn't, then you need to search on the internet for a solution or to contact the manufacturer. After the camera is recognized by your computer, it will work with our software too. Our software uses the same Software Development Kit as the camera producers.
  6. Try to connect only your camera on all of the USB ports of the computer with the original cable, without any USB port hub or with not long cables.
  7. Upgrade your camera's firmware from the manufacturer's website. (For Nikon see this: and then search for your camera at the bottom.) Even if you just got a new camera, you still need to update internal camera firmware (software), from your camera manufacturer official website, Support section, Downloads page. For Canon:   , search for your model (say Canon T6, click Drivers $ Downloads button, Firmware, check if you got latest, from your camera's internal menu). Got instructions as well, after you download the firmware. You will get v111-t6-1300d-x80-mac.dmg file for Mac, for Canon T6 for example. Double click to open this/unzip. You need to copy the CCF17111.FIR file on your camera's SD card, then from its menu, on the last page, Update Firmware.     For Nikon:   , search for your model, say D750, click Search, Firmware, view Download Page, check box Accept, Download. Go to Downloads folder on your computer. Double click/unzip F-DCDATA-2018M.dmg file, open DCDATA Update subfolder, copy NKLD0218.BIN file on camera SD card, then go to camera's menu, Update Firmware.
  8. Set the camera to save the pictures only in JPEG file format.
  9. Set the camera mode dial on M mode (completely manual mode).
  10. Try a different USB cable. Is it firmly fixed on both ends, not loose?
  11. Disable the antivirus, any auto run and uninstall other applications which automatically start when connecting the camera to the computer's USB port.
  12. Remove the SD card from the camera.
  13. Maybe the camera is broken? A good idea is to try to unplug camera from USB and see if it works shooting outside of Shutter Stream, as a normal camera. See if Live View mode works, see if images are being shot and saved to SD card, etc...
  14. Somehow, some cameras, like Canon EOS R on Windows 10, needs to be connected using an USB-C to USB-C cable, in order for it to work. Ensure you are using the correct camera connection cable.

  15. If your computer only has USB 3.0 ports, try with USB 2.0 cable and USB 2.0 powered USB hub to get more USB ports from one port (USB port multiplier, with external power cord). USB 3.0 cables and ports have additional wires and they may interfere. It does for our turntables, for example. So, try a USB 2.0 hub, which has a USB 2.0 connection to the camera.
  16. Make sure your camera is not set to capture only RAW. If you need RAW, you will have to set the camera to Jpeg+Raw. Else, use only Jpeg, from the camera's internal settings menu.

Latest Software Version

Please also verify you have the latest version of the software. To check the software version, go to the upper right corner of the software's window and click the blue gear, then About. Please update to the latest release version (if you have a Valid maintenance agreement and are eligble for the software update).
