Canon Error Codes

Problem

Using a Canon camera I receive an error code. What is it?

Issue might be your camera was disconnected while the software was communicating with the camera and this is now causing a communication error.

Feel free to try:

Shut down software
Disconnect camera from USB
Turn off camera
Remove battery (leave battery out of camera for 5 seconds)
Re-plug in battery, power back on camera and connect via USB
Launch software and enable 'Live View'

Solution

Here are the Canon Error Codes, listed as HEX numbers. The error code you receive from Shutter Stream

needs to be converted into a HEX number first. This is most easily done using the Windows / Mac Calculator program.

First, select DEC and enter the decimal number you receive from Shutter Stream. Then click on HEX and the number

will be converted to a HEX number. Use that HEX number to look up the Canon error code from the list below.

(Note: In time, we're also adding the conversion to decimal numbers here, so try searching for the decimal number
too. You might get a hit.)

For example, if we were to look up error code 36107.  We open up the calculator on Mac and select the Programmer mode,

then enter the number:


Next, we click on 16, for Hex and we get 0x8D0B

Now search for "8D0B"  (Ignore the 0x.) and you get:
